Series: Star Wars
Name: Zekk
Age: 27
Gender: Male
some days I need to call upon
Appearance: Zekk is taller than average, with broad shoulders and a quiet strength about him. He has unusually pale skin, a remnant of his early life in Coruscant’s lower levels, which contrasts sharply with his long dark hair a shade lighter than black which he typically wears pulled back in a tail or braid. His most striking feature are his emerald green eyes, the irises of which are rimmed in a thin black corona. He usually dresses in dark Jedi robes or jumpsuits unless on an undercover mission. His face generally wears a serious, slightly haunted expression, the shadows of which remain even when he smiles.
the very depths of me
Personality: At first encounter Zekk often seems severe, harsh and somewhat introverted, but he loosens up quickly to become a joker and even adventurer once he is comfortable around someone. On occasion he can be moody and depressed, usually about his past, but tends to keep these moments private. Despite the relaxed, good-natured attitude he maintains around friends or people he is comfortable with, Zekk holds himself to a very strict set of personal morals and principles as a result of his earlier experiences with the dark side. He tries to avoid giving in to strong emotions, positive or negative, and is willing to step away from tense situations to get control of himself, even if it means leaving a friend hanging. He loyal and devoted to his friends, and always reliable, especially when it comes to saving the day.
so I wait out here to the east of eden
Particulars: Jedi: Zekk is a Jedi, and a powerful one at that. He has a great deal of Force potential and, most importantly has a Force-enhanced talent for finding things. This can be used for items, people, even situations and aided him greatly in his early life as a scavenger. He carries an orange-bladed lightsaber, and tends to be a very defensive fighter, considering aggression to be a path to the dark side.
Pilot: He is also a very skilled pilot, and while he is comfortable with small combat snubfighters he feels truly at home in larger cargo ships such as his own vessel, the Lightning Rod. He even won the 93rd annual Ord Mantell Blockade Runners’ Derby as a teen.
Mechanic: He’s a decent mechanic having picked up some basic repair skills as a scavenger and from Peckhum.
I watch your soul run free
Canon History: Zekk was born on Ennth, a colony world whose moon traveled on an elliptical orbit, bringing it into contact with the planets atmosphere once every eight years and causing massive earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tidal waves and other gravitational disasters, which forced the colonists to evacuate to orbital refugee stations for the year it took for the phenomena to cease. When he was nine, the disasters struck again, and he was sent to one of the stations while his parents stayed behind to collect the last few things from their home. Tragically, an earthquake struck, burying them alive and leaving the young Zekk – who, while unaware of his Force potential, had felt and experienced his parents’ deaths through the Force – alone.

Life aboard the crowded refugee stations was miserable, with few resources or food, and Zekk stowed away on one departing supply ship, repeating the process at ports around the galaxy until he was discovered by Peckhum, an old spacer who took a liking to the boy and informally adopted him, allowing him to live with him in his small apartment on Coruscant’s lower levels. As Peckhum was often away running supplies, Zekk was left virtually on his own, running wild in the lower levels where he eked out a living by scavenging discarded machines and trash which he could repair and sell. Even with a home, life in the lower levels was difficult, and he often went to bed hungry, dirty and cold. He also ran afoul of many of the gangs that roamed the lower levels, especially the Lost Ones, by refusing to join them. He met Jaina Solo and her twin brother Jacen on one of their many adventures in the lower levels and quickly became fast friends with them, particularly Jaina. Although the twins were much better off than him, he only resented it a bit and did not let that get in the way of their friendship.

All this changed, however, when he was 16. Jaina and Jacen returned on a trip home from the Jedi Academy along with their friends Tenel Ka and Lowbacca, and invited Zekk to join them at a state dinner. Despite his best efforts to impress his friends, particularly Jaina, he made a fool of himself with clothes that were old and out of style, messy hair, and worst of all, by eating a bouquet he had mistaken for a salad. Humiliated, he fled back to the lower levels, where he came across Tamith Kai, a Nightsister who was scouting for potential Dark Jedi recruits for the Shadow Academy. Sensing his power, she stunned and kidnapped him, bringing him back to the Dark Jedi Brakiss aboard the Shadow Academy’s cloaked space station and training facility. Although Zekk at first tried to remain loyal to his friends, it was easy to turn him to the dark side once Brakiss succeeded in convincing him the twins had known of his Force potential and done nothing, as well as pointing out that he would finally have a chance to be something other than a dirty street rat. Fueled by these thoughts, Zekk rose quickly through the ranks of the Shadow Academy as Brakiss’s protégé. He developed a fierce rivalry with Tamith Kai’s own favorite student, Vilas, which their two teachers encouraged, eventually pitting the two students against each other in a zero gravity lightsaber battle to determine which would become the Academy’s Darkest Knight. The fight was evenly matched, but Zekk finally succeeded in killing his rival and earning the position he had so badly wanted, the action sending him even farther into the grip of the dark side. He then led a raid on the computer facilities of Kashyyyk, where he confronted his old friend Jaina, but could not bring himself to kill her. Soon afterwards he led the Shadow Academy attack on the Jedi Academy on Yavin 4, only to watch as his troops were slowly but surely defeated by the Jedi trainees. Within minutes of each other, he saw Peckhum’s ship, the Lightning Rob shot down and watched the Shadow Academy, with his mentor Brakiss aboard, explode. Racked with guilt and despair about what he had become, he made his way to the Jedi Academy where he confronted Jaina in a lightsaber duel. Only after the explosive charges his troops had planted in the temple exploded, seriously injuring Zekk, did she realize he had in fact saved her life by preventing her from entering the temple.

Zekk recovered slowly, but could not bring himself to take up Luke’s offer to stay and train as a Jedi. Instead, he decided to try a brief stint as a bounty hunter, joining in the hunt for Bornan Thul, until he realized the man was trying to keep the location of the Emperor’s plague from the anti-human Diversity Alliance. He passed the information he had learned to Jaina and the rest of his friends, eventually helping them to track down the plague storehouse and destroy it. Feeling he had finally overcome the worse of his demons, he returned to the Jedi Academy to train, but not before he used his Force skills to win the 93rd Ord Mantell Blockade Runners’ Derby. He and the other young Jedi helped bring down the reemerging Black Sun criminal organization and were all officially promoted from trainees to apprentices.

Before he had time to enjoy this honor, or his new romantic relationship with Jaina, however, the Yuuzhan Vong invasion struck, plunging the galaxy into war. Zekk acted as a forward observer for the Jedi monitoring the invasion path during the beginning of the war, and assisted in several planetary evacuations and refugee relocation missions. He was one of the Jedi selected for the strike team to Myrkr to destroy the voxyn genetic material, a mission that reunited him with many of his old friends, including Jaina for whom he still had feelings although she now though of him as nothing more than a friend. He fiercely opposed trusting Lomi Plo and Welk, the two former Shadow Academy members the team rescued on Myrkr who offered to act as their guides, and traded barbs with them throughout the mission. Despite Lomi’s not-so-subtle attempts to provoke his anger and cause him to use the dark side, he resisted, and blamed himself when the Dark Jedi tricked the team and stole their escape craft, with his injured friend Raynar Thul aboard. Having lost both her brothers and so many friends, Jaina began to spiral into the dark side, and, after the team escaped to Hapes, Zekk made the painful decision to back away, knowing if she asked him to turn with her he would not be able to say no, a dangerous prospect considering how much training he had in dark side techniques. He also knew he could not bring himself to kill her if it came to that, and although he accompanied her to Borleias where he participated in the battles there, he kept away from her even at their knighting ceremony. He also fought at Ebaq 9 and was one of the Jedi to bond with a Sekotan seedship before the final battle of Coruscant, which he also fought in.

Five years afterwards, Zekk, along with the rest of the strike team, received a mysterious Force call that led them to the Unknown Regions where they discovered the missing Raynar Thul had not only survived but become the leader of the Killiks, an insectoid race joined through a hivemind, which Raynar now controlled.
I was waiting, I was watching
Crux: Although he sympathized with the Killik’s plight, Zekk could not bring himself to see the Chiss as evil and volunteered to return to the Jedi Temple with news of the problem and a request for help rather than stay and become more entangled in the situation.
Tangent: Zekk left the handling of the Dark Nest Crisis to the more experienced Jedi Masters, not wanting to antagonize his friends who had decided to stand by the Killiks. Instead he took other, separate missions that kept him busy until the problem could be resolved. He then made the decision to take a brief hiatus to work on improving his skills as a Jedi, deciding to do so in a city he head heard of which was located on a distant world far away and isolated from galactic events.
Allegiance: legion
Reason: As a Jedi, Zekk is dedicated to protecting and serving those in need and enforcing the law.
